National-level performer, former principal timpanist of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, and head of the percussion section.
Over the years, Zhou Xiong, as a percussionist, has premiered numerous works, including "Seeking" by the renowned composer Master Zhu Jian'er for percussion and cello and various music performances and recordings for the film "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" composed by Tan Dun.
He has also participated in many significant domestic and international performances with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, including the China Arts Festival, Beijing International Music Festival, Shanghai Spring International Music Festival, New York Central Park Concert, Sino-French Cultural Year Concert, Tokyo Crazy Music Festival, etc., collaborating with many famous musicians such as Ricardo Muti, Zubin Mehta, Kurt Masur, Zheng Mingxun, Charles Dutoit, Yo-Yo Ma, Maxim Vengerov, Hugh Jackman, Penderecki, Zhu Jian'er, Tan Dun, Chen Qigang, and others. His long-term career as an orchestral performer has accumulated rich performance experience and a vast repertoire of orchestral works.
As a national-level performer, Zhou is keen on participating in various teaching activities aside from his busy performance schedule. He co-founded China's most influential percussion art festival with the Shanghai Conservatory of Music - the IPEA International Percussion Art Festival and International Percussion Competition. Zhou currently teaches at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music as a professor of modern instrumental music and percussion and supervises graduate students. He also serves as the vice president of the China Percussion Association and the vice director of the Shanghai Musicians Association Percussion Professional Committee. In 2015, Zhou became the executive director and executive director of the IPEA International Percussion Education Association.

Former Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra Percussion Principal | Associate Director of HKCO Orchestral Academy
Yim Hok Man is a renowned percussionist with over sixty years of performing experience. He is the Associate Director of The HKCO Orchestral Academy. He was a percussionist with the Central Philharmonic Orchestra for twenty-two years before he joined the HKCO in 1984. He is also Vice President of the Percussion Society under the auspices of the Chinese Musicians' Association, a visiting professor at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, the China Conservatory of Music and the Shenyang Conservatory of Music. He also teaches at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), Hong Kong Baptist University, and The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA). Musicians trained by him can be found in various parts of the world. For more than half a century, Yim has made substantial contributions to percussion music in both Mainland China and Hong Kong.
Yim has consummate knowledge of a comprehensive range of Chinese and Western percussion music, from performance to teaching, music composition, and research. His performing experience and repertoire, his efforts in carrying on traditions and assimilating cultures of the East and the West, and his attention to development and innovation in percussive art demonstrate his artistic virtuosity and solid cultural insights. He has gone on touring performances to dozens of cities on four continents of the world and has received unanimous acclaim from audiences, music critics, and the media alike. Yim was awarded 'Artist of the Year' by the Hong Kong Artists' Guild in 1999. In recognition of his distinguished contribution, he was presented with a Commendation Certificate by HAB of the HKSAR Government in 2005. On the celebration of the 60th National Day of the People's Republic of China in 2009, he was honoured by the Guangzhou Daily as one of the "Top Artists from China since 1949".
Yim's solo album Moster of Chinese Percussion-YimHok-man (1) is regarded as a quintessential representation of the art of percussion and has been released worldwide. It has become the benchmark for testing amplifiers and the functioning of sound equipment as adopted by audiophiles and audio manufacturers. It won the recommendation of a U.S. audio magazine as a masterpiece by one of the world's five greatest percussionists.
IVAN TREVINO
Internationally renowned percussionist and composer
Ivan Trevino is a Mexican-American composer, percussionist, teacher and arts advocate. Recognised worldwide for his contributions to percussion literature, Ivan's music has been performed on five continents in over 25 countries. He is a multi-award-winning recipient of the Percussive Arts Society's International Composition Contest with over 80 compositions and songs to his name. His newly commissioned works include an etude book for The Juilliard School, a wind band piece for The Eastman Wind Ensemble, and a marimba quartet for the Grammy Award-winning ensemble, Third Coast Percussion. In 2020, Ivan was the featured composer on National Public Radio's Performance Today.
Ivan currently serves as Assistant Professor of Practice at Butler School of Music at the University of Texas at Austin, where he teaches a studio of undergraduate and graduate percussion majors. He is an artist and clinician for Innovative Percussion, Black Swamp Percussion, Zildjian Cymbals, Evans Drumheads, Pearl / Adams, and Meinl Percussion.
Ivan is also known for his work as a drummer with Break of Reality, an international touring cello rock quartet. As a member of the ensemble, Ivan has released five studio albums, been featured on PBS, Huffington Post, Yahoo Music, and is on regular rotation on NPR.
Ivan's work spans various media, including storytelling, poetry, and film scoring. His collection of online writings is regularly circulated throughout the arts community, including ''My Pretend Music School'', a blog post that has sparked debate about the music school curriculum and has become required reading for collegiate courses around the U.S.
RebeCca Lloyd-Jones
Lecturer in Percussion at the Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University
Australian-born percussionist Rebecca Lloyd-Jones is a multiform musician, passionate about performance, research, and education. Praised as ''captivating'' (San Diego Union-Tribune), Rebecca has performed professionally across Asia, Europe, North America, and Oceania, presented at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention, and held residences at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, Canada.
Active across many genres, Rebecca has performed on the Walt Disney Concert Hall stage in conjunction with the Los Angeles Philharmonic's Noon to Midnight marathon new-music festival, at the BBC Proms, Concertgebouw Concert Hall, and The National Centre for the Performing Arts, Beijing, with the Australian Youth Orchestra.
Rebecca has performed with the PARTCH ensemble, ensemble Red Fish Blue Fish, and the Hong Kong-based percussion quintet Up Strike Project and is the Artistic Director of Synergy Percussion. She participated in the soundSCAPE composition and performance exchange (Italy) and was a guest artist at the VI Semana Internacional de Improvisación and tutor at the Festival de Musica Nueva 2019, Ensenada, Baja California (Mexico).
Rebecca is an early career creative development grant recipient from the American Australian Arts Fund and is currently working on a research project that examines the percussion works of Lucia Dlugoszewski, Eleanor Hovda, and Maryanne Amacher. Rebecca presented her research at the Transplanted Roots Research Symposium from 2017 to 2019 and was the artistic producer of the 2022 edition held in San Diego (USA).
Rebecca graduated from the Victorian College of Arts with the Desma Woolcock award for academic excellence, received a Master of Music Research from the Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University, and holds a Doctorate from the University of California San Diego with Distinguished Professor Steven Schick.
Rebecca currently holds the position of Lecturer and Coordinator of Percussion at Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University and is a Marimba One Education Artist.
Dr. Lo Hau-Man
Composer and teaches at the Department of Music, The Chinese University of Hong Kong
Lo Hau-man graduated from HKAPA, majoring in Horn and Composition. He then got a Doctor of Music in composition from CUHK, where he studied composition with Mr. Law Wing-fai, Prof. David Gwilt, and Prof. Chan Wing-wah, conducting with Miran Kojian and John Harding.
He has written music for dance, drama, multi-media performances, chamber music, orchestral music, opera, Church Music, jingles, and pop songs. His works have been performed in Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, the UK, Germany, France, China, Australia, Norway, Taiwan, and New Zealand. His Opera ''Legend of Zheng Baozai'' was awarded ''the best serious music'' in the 2010 CASH Golden Sail Award.
Lo taught at the Hong Kong Institution of Education and HKAPA, was former Chairman of the Hong Kong Composers' Guild, and is now teaching at the CUHK, active as a composer and conductor.
CHAU CHIN-TUNG
Principal Percussionist of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta
Chau Chin-tung is the Principal Percussion of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta (HKS) and Curator of Lo Tung Lo Percussion Group.
Chau started playing percussion at 7 and graduated from HKAPA. He has collaborated with local groups, including the Hong Kong Arts Festival, the HKCO, Zuni Icosahedron, Box, the Hong Kong Ballet, City Contemporary Dance Company, and Hong Kong Dance Company. Local artists he has collaborated with include Yim Hok-man, Kung Chi-shing, Chan Hing-yan, Ng Yu-lek, Gaybird, Anthony Wong, Yu Yat-yiu, Ng King-pin, Wong Shuang-chun, Chan Ho-lun, and others.
Past overseas performances included a guest appearance at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival and the European première and South American tour of Ng Cheuk-yin's White with the HKS in 2004 and 2010, respectively.
In addition to performing, Chau is dedicated to music education. He has held school concerts, given lectures, and hosted workshops at the Royal School of Music, the University of Hong Kong (HKU), the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and the City University of Hong Kong. He has also adjudicated at the Hong Kong Drum Festival and Macao Young Musicians Competition.
Dr. Matthew Lau
Award-winning percussionist
Hailed by the Aspen Times for his “soulful and technically impressive solo" at his vibraphone concerto debut at the Aspen Music Festival, percussionist Dr Matthew Lau performs a wide range of repertoire with an absolute commitment to communicate the meaning and essence of percussion music to its audience, from arrangement of Bach to avant-garde contemporary pieces by Donatoni, in high calibre performances with a whimsical twist. As a queer Asian percussionist, Dr. Lau challenges the conventional narratives and works to change the traditional prescribed career path.
Matthew is the co-founder and artistic director of Hong Kong contemporary percussion group The Up: Strike Project and is part of the duo Fisher/Lau Project. Matthew enjoys an international teaching & performing career; 2019 - 2022 engagements include appearances in universities, festivals and competitions in countries like the USA, Argentina, Mexico, Peru, Taiwan, Spain, Australia, and Russia. Matthew obtained his DMA in percussion performance from Stony Brook University under Eduardo Leandro. Matthew was awarded the prestigious LAB Grant from the Boston Foundation for 2022 - 2023. Matthew also receives additional projects & touring grants from HKADC and was named Award for New Artist at the 2018 Hong Kong Arts Development Awards. He is currently on the Board of Advisors and Keyboard Committee for The Percussive Arts Society and the Board of Directors for The Vibraphone Project Inc.
Dr Lau is the Premier Artist of Marimba One, an Artist Endorser of Black Swamp Percussion, and the Signature Artist of Encore/Salyers Mallets. He is also an avid yoga practitioner and believes proper alignment can eliminate certain soreness in percussion playing.
Rieko Koyama
Percussionist of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta
Rieko Koyama is a percussionist for HKS. Growing up in Nara, Japan, she started her musical training at a young age with rudimental drumming for marching bands. She marched with Santa Clara Vanguard as a tenor player. She bloomed more in classical percussion playing while studying at Indiana University at Bloomington and New England Conservatory, where her teachers included Frank Epstein, Anthony Cirone, and Gerald Carlyss. After finishing her studies, she played timpani and percussion at the Hyogo Performing Arts Center Orchestra with Yutaka Sado as the artistic director and has performed under Ricardo Muti and Marin Alsop’s batons at Pacific Music Festival and Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music in Santa Cruz, California.
Rieko enjoys performing chamber and modern music with mixed instruments and percussion. She has collaborated with strings and piano at the Good Music This Lunch series with HKS and will continue to explore new chamber music in the coming year.
CHOY LAP-TAK
Percussion Lecturer at HKAPA | the Hong Kong Consultant in Drum Kit of the Trinity Guildhall, London
Choy Lap-tak graduated from HKAPA in 1995 and received the Hong Kong Jockey Scholarship to study at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. He studied with many internationally renowned percussion and timpani masters.
During his studies, Tak started playing in professional orchestras and productions, including the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HKPO), HKS, Macao Orchestra and the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields. He also played in a lot of musical productions, such as West Side Story, Damn Yankees!, The Wizard of OZ, My Fair Lady, The Pirate's of Penzance and Crazy for You. He played in the famous musical CATS and travelled to Korea with the production in 1994.
Tak is an active percussion and timpani soloist in HK who has performed worldwide. He is a member of the Hong Kong Percussion Ensemble and the Jenga Percussion Group, which has been the Artist-in-Residence in RTHK Radio 4. He is an active educator in HK and has presented several percussion classes and workshops there. He has also been a percussion tutor in HKAPA, the Endorser of the Zildjian Cymbal Company and Latin Percussion Company, and the Hong Kong Consultant in Drum Kit of the Trinity Guildhall, London.
Chan Tsz Ho Samuel
Renowned marimba soloist and percussionist
As the first-prize winner of the Percussive Arts Society International Solo Percussion Competition and Great Plains International Marimba Competition, Samuel Chan's diverse performing experiences have taken him to celebrate concert halls on multiple continents. Samuel has appeared as a soloist with the Houston Symphony. He has also performed with ensembles such as the Malaysian and HKPO, HKS, Macao Orchestra, Hong Kong New Music Ensemble, and in summers at the Lucerne, Verbier, Tanglewood and Pacific Music Festivals. An avid chamber musician and a member of The Up: Strike Project, he was invited to perform on tour throughout Europe as Co-Principal with the World Percussion Group and has collaborated with such acclaimed artists as Lawrence Lesser, Angelo Yu, Orli Shaham, and Aiyun Huang.
Educated at the Colburn School, The Juilliard School, the New England Conservatory and HKAPA, Samuel currently serves on the faculty of HKAPA's Junior Music Programme.
Kei Ching Yi
contemporary Marching music designer
Kei Ching Yi is one of the most active contemporary marching band music composers and trainers in recent years. She has travelled to Japan and earned the Level 3 Instructor, Marching Band, and Baton Twirling certificates from the JMBA. In 2014, she was invited by the Samila Drum & Bugle Corps in Thailand to become the first HK trumpeter, touring and competing in various cities, including Bangkok and Songkhla, for several months. She later participated in marching band training in Japan and furthered his study in marching music performance and training methods in Taiwan.
After settling in Shanghai, she worked as a marching and wind band instructor at Motif Music, expanding the scale and systematisation of wind band and marching band training. In addition to music, Ji excels in drill design, marching band performance design, and teacher training. She has designed drills for bands worldwide and previously worked as a lecturer in the Qingdao Marching Band Teacher Training Program and as the curriculum director for the Marching Band Internship Program. In 2019, she led her band to win the 4th IPEA International Percussion Competition championship.

As the founder and course director of Rhythm Life, Tom To has 15 years of experience in education and professional performance. As the drummer of the band, Mr., has participated in various large-scale music performances and collaborated with seasoned musicians in behind-the-scenes music production. In 2018, after studying music courses at authoritative overseas institutions, Tom developed an innovative music teaching model that integrates his years of experience as a professional musician, creating an effective and enjoyable teaching system that he implemented in the courses offered by Rhythm Life.
